Lookout is a peer-to-peer car rental marketplace: hosts list their own cars, and guests book them for trips that start at national parks and trailheads. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who can see it, and how to have it removed. It took effect on October 16, 2026.
What we collect
When you create an account we collect your email address, name, and phone number. Your phone number is used to coordinate pickup and to reach you if something goes wrong on a trip.
Bookings
When you reserve a car we keep the record of that trip: the dates you booked, the vehicle, the park, the price, the protection plan you chose, and the booking status. Both the renter and the host of that trip can see the booking, and Lookout staff can see it to resolve a problem.
Photos of cars and trip inspections
Hosts upload photos of the vehicle for their listing. At pickup and return, the renter and host take check-in and check-out inspection photos, along with notes on the car's condition, fuel or charge level, odometer reading, and any damage.
These photos are stored privately. They are visible only to the renter, the host of that trip, and Lookout staff — never published to other users or to the public.
Location
We use the park and pickup location you choose when you search or book. We do not track your device's location in the background. If a page or the app ever asks for location permission and you allow it, that is the only time your location is used, and you can turn it off in your device settings.
Service providers
Lookout is hosted on Supabase, which provides our database, authentication, and file storage. Those systems hold the information described above so the marketplace can run. We do not give your personal information to advertisers.
We do not sell your personal data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.
Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account and data at any time — see Delete your Lookout account for the steps. You can also email will@thepumpsoftwarecompany.com from the address on your account and we will remove it. Some records of a completed or cancelled trip may remain in a form that does not identify you, so that the other party to that trip still has their history.
Two-factor authentication
Two-factor authentication is available for your account and is optional. Turning it on adds a second step when you sign in; leaving it off does not affect anything else.
Children
Lookout is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email us and we will delete it.
